Brand New Beginnings, a supportive housing organization that the Chicago Coalition for the
Homeless helped found in 2001, has honored CCH with its Social Service
Award. Brand New Beginnings gave the award "in appreciation of
your commitment, cooperation and partnership in making Chicago
neighborhoods a better place for all people through the Rental
Assistance Program." The program, a result of CCH advocacy, will
provide rent subsidies for an estimated 4,000 rent-burdened households
making ends meet on extremely low incomes. Brand New Beginnings'
Executive Director Della Mitchell is a former CCH women's organizer,
and BNB board member Dollie Brewer is a CCH senior organizer who now runs
the Women's Empowerment Project.
